When first thinking about creating a soundscape I wanted to use everyday sounds to create a unique song with an EDM or rap flow. But after learning about John Cage I know that there is so much more to the creation of music. He opened my eyes to show me that every sound is music.
I plan to create a soundscape that takes the listener through my typical day. I want to use the sounds that I hear everyday to help the listener feel like they are in my shoes. I will have an air conditioning unit running constantly in the background because that is what I deal with every day. I want to use different sounds to describe the various activities that I venture on daily. I have already recorded weights slamming in the gym, and golf balls being struck. I hope to use the repetition of these sounds almost like a metronome throughout my soundscape. I will include a lot of repetition to showcase how repetitive life can be. I hope the listener will question if their life is meaningful to them, or are they just blindly going through the motions.
Another goal with this soundscape is for the listener to appreciate sounds they normally would not. The sounds a golf ball makes when being hit is one of the greatest sounds to me, and what drives me to continue to play. I want the listener to be thinking about what sounds make them happy. Sound is very underappreciated even though it is the driving factor for many of my goals. I hope by the end of the soundscape the listener will establish what in life is meaningful to them.
